Description:
Although Cornell MacNeil excelled in all of the great dramatic baritone parts, Rigoletto was a particularly good fit for his dark baritone voice, balancing the character’s tender love for his daughter against his disdain for humanity perfectly. Roberta Peters‘ Gilda shimmers from her first entrance. Her “Caro nome” is a masterclass in vocal technique and style; however, it is her Act III duet with her father where we truly see the full expression of this character. Barry Morell brings a sense of dangerous charm to the role of the Duke. The sound quality is good, though some digital artifacts are present.
