• The ideal Elvira in Ernani possesses the agility of a Gilda with the power of an Aida (no small feat). Pauline Tinsley delivers on both points all while bringing her signature intensity.
• Donald Smith’s burly lyricism is well-suited to title role.
• Robert Bickerstaff’s performance as Carlo is, in my opinion, on par with many of the great Verdi baritones of his day.
