Given the energy and spirit of this performance, you would have no idea that a devastating war was being fought in their midst. This is due in great part to the youthful Konstanze courtesy of Elisabeth Schwarzkopf. Any doubts as to how she would fair in such a daunting role are quickly put to rest from the first few bars of “Martern aller Arten.” Anton Dermota is a suave Belmonte and Emmy Loose is charmingly coy as Blonde. The sound is excellent and I have included excerpts from Die Entführung aus dem Serail to fill out the second CD, featuring Teresa Stich-Randall and Nicolai Gedda.
