The cast mirrors the later studio recording in nearly every respect, with one notable and intriguing change — Ruggero Raimondi steps into the role of Fiesco, replacing Nicolai Ghiaurov. Piero Cappuccilli, in one of his most defining portrayals, brings a rugged elegance to Boccanegra, perfectly capturing the transformation from pirate to tender father. Mirella Freni lends her signature warmth and vocal richness to Amelia/Maria, navigating both the ethereal and more dramatic passages with ease. As Fiesco, Ruggero Raimondi offers a more polished and refined interpretation, in contrast to the weightier presence of Nicolai Ghiaurov.
